Karen Speed is a cable industry marketing guru by day and a self-proclaimed foodie-wino by night. I have a passion and love for great food, great wine and travel adventures. I’d like to share these adventures with you through my blogs. It’s sort of like you are there with me on the journey!
I’ll share some wonderful wines that I learn about and try. We’ll have travel adventures, taste creations by well-known chefs as well as trying out new recipes. I love to cook. I love the feel of food in my hands as I prepare a meal. Cooking appeals to all of my senses…vision to see the various colors of bell peppers or beads of water on fresh washed lettuce; the smell of chopped dill or chopped garlic cloves being sautéed or hearing the sizzle of a steak on the grill. It’s all so tantalizing.
When I cook I feel so creative. It allows me to mix ingredients and share the love that I put into creating a meal for my family and friends. Learning about food, wine and travel destinations helps me keep my sanity. Getting in the kitchen to stir up something helps me unwind from a crazy day at work, or life’s unexpected turns.
Cooking was handed down from my mother and grandmother which was solidified by my deep Southern roots. Cooking and eating were always the centerpiece of family gatherings and in the South, that’s how you entertain!
I like fresh foods, whether I’m cooking or having food prepared for me. Growing up, we always had fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the seasons. And early on in my childhood, I appreciated fresh food. Chemicals, hormones and pesticides that are in processed foods really frightens me. When I cook something myself, I know what I am eating, where it came from and how fresh it is. I do follow and support the slow food movement.
I have so much in life that I want to see and do. So thank you for allowing me to share my bucket list adventures with you through these blogs, and hopefully you’ll have a little fun too. My motto: If you don’t have fun….then what’s the point!
thanks for sharing— definitley going to enjoy the recipes! Now I just need to start cooking.
